I’m back on the Jesus Prayer most of the day. Constantly…moving my lips along with the words, silent on my breath…when I’m driving, when I’m typing, when I’m trying hardest not to lose my temper or lapse into future living instead of the now…present tense…

The Jesus Prayer is always present tense.

Today, sitting alone while the kids were all out playing I clung to my quiet house, my warm coffee cup, my three loads of laundry already done, boo-yah.

And as I recited the Jesus Prayer I had a thought or heard a voice or maybe I was just paying attention…for a change. I should know this in Greek, I should say this in Greek.

Right, good luck with that, sistah.

I tried to move it to the back of my mind and focus back to my prayer and it came again…urgent….”do this.”  Not a distraction then? Okay.

I looked it up on my phone, right then, sitting in my comfy chair, in the surprising quiet calm of my city house. There it was

first this-

Jesus Prayer for women, in Greek: Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱέ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὴν ἁμαρτωλόν.

back up…start again-

Kyrie Iesou Christe, Yie tou Theou, Eleison me tin amartalon.

once more, with feeling-KEE-ree-ay ee-SOO khree-STAY, YAY too thay-OO, eh-lay-ee-SOHN meh TEEN ah-mar-tah-LOHN

I’m practicing…one day maybe it’ll come to me like water knows how to run downhill after a rain.
